How we quote, how we build, and what you can expect from us.

About these terms
These terms cover the use of this website and the work we do for you. Your written quote and invoice sit alongside them, and where a quote or invoice says something more specific, that document applies.
Classic Timber Fences (CTF) is based at 7 Harris Crescent, Papanui, Christchurch, and works across Christchurch.
Quotes
Anything you request through this website is a request for a quote. It is not a booking and it does not create a contract.
Our quotes are itemised, so you can see materials, labour and any additional work separately. Prices are as stated on your written quote, and a quote stays open for the period shown on it.
A quote is based on the site as we found it or as you described it. If the ground, the boundary or the access turns out to be different once we start, we will tell you before we carry on, and any change is quoted separately for you to approve.
Boundary fences and your neighbours
A fence on a shared boundary is covered by the Fencing Act 1978. Under that Act, neighbours are generally each responsible for a share of the cost of an adequate fence, and there is a formal notice process for agreeing it.
We build fences. We are not a party to any agreement between you and your neighbour, and we cannot settle a boundary dispute for you. We invoice the person who accepted the quote.
Please make sure you have the agreement you need before we start. If you are not sure where the legal boundary sits, a surveyor is cheaper than moving a finished fence.
Getting your property ready
We need clear access to the fence line, and enough room to work and to bring materials in.
Before we dig, please tell us about anything underground on the line: irrigation, power or water to a shed, drainage, or anything else that will not be obvious from the surface. We take reasonable care, but we cannot be responsible for damage to services we were not told about and could not reasonably have found.
Let us know about pets, and about anything on the boundary you want kept, moved or protected.
The work
We build to the workmanship standards set out on our Quality Checklist page. Those are the benchmarks we hold ourselves to on every fence.
Timber is a natural material. Some movement, checking and colour change is normal as it dries and weathers, and is not a fault.
We treat your property with respect and leave the site clean and tidy when we finish, including removing the old fence and our own waste where the quote includes it.
Payment
Payment terms are stated on your invoice. If a deposit is required for materials, it will be set out on your quote before you accept it.
Where we have quoted a price, that is the price, unless you have approved a variation in the meantime.

Where you are a consumer, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 applies to our work and nothing in these terms limits your rights under it. Our services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and materials must be fit for purpose.
Where the work is for a business, our liability is limited to putting the defective work right or refunding what you paid for it.
This website
The photographs on this site are of work we have done. They show what is possible, not a guarantee that your fence will be identical: sites, timber and finishes differ.
We keep the site accurate, but we do not warrant that everything on it is complete or current at any given moment. Nothing on this website is a fixed price.
Details you send us through the quote form are handled as set out in our Privacy Policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
